Relaxing in Coorg

After being cooped up for almost a year and a half, this was a trip to unwind away from home. Club Mahindra seemed reasonable in terms of COVID sanitation and with open spaces to walk. We drove down to Virajpet and relaxed within the resort watching birds the first day after the long drive.

The second morning started off with a quick drive through plantations to Nalaknad palace and birding en route. There were quite a few hornbills and woodpeckers, with the usual groups of bulbuls and mynahs closer to the palace. There seemed to be a bit of construction going on near the palace probably for more parking and the routes are narrow and confusing so lost my way even with the navigation on. After some more bird spotting inside the resort, a visit during the day to the Iguthappa temple saw some crowds. We moved to the Madikeri resort after that.

We spent the next couple of days around Madikeri hopping to the usual tourist spots. We visited Abby falls, the Raja seat, a nearby temple and some chocolate / coffee shopping. There was a small dam behind the resort we hadnt seen before which did not have people but most other tourist spots were quite crowded. The resort also had its healthy number of birds despite the crowds. On the way back to Bangalore we stopped for a detour through the Chiklihole dam where a sudden downpour had us get back to the road quickly.
